We always tell our private consulting clients that their mattress is the first thing they should upgrade when detoxing their homes because of the number of chemicals they usually contain.
That said, organic, non-toxic mattresses don’t come cheap, which is why many of you are probably considering taking advantage of some of the Black Friday, Small Business Saturday, or Cyber Monday deals.
This year’s deals feature some great bargains on non-toxic mattress listed within both on our Safe Mattress Guide and our own online store.
We’ve pulled all the 2019 Black Friday non-toxic mattress deals we could find, and organized them below, including links to the deals themselves and our take on the brand.

Valid thru: December 2
Our take on Savvy Rest: Savvy Rest is the non-toxic mattress Maia bought when she was pregnant. The latex used by Savvy Rest is 100% natural, and other materials used include certified organic wool (which serves as flame retardant) and cotton. (They are not in our Best Stuff category because they don’t have as many certifications those brands do.)

The Okay Stuff
Brooklyn Bedding
The deal: 25% off with code BLACKFRIDAY25.
Valid through: Unclear – so hurry to take advantage!
Our take on Brooklyn Bedding: This company claims to have OekoTex certification but failed to present proof to us of this. They do have CertiPUR certification (meaning at least the very worst flame retardants won’t be present in these mattresses).
Eco Terra
The deal: Eco Terra is offering $150 off all mattresses for Cyber Week with code SALE150.
Valid through: November 26
Our take on Eco Terra: Eco Terra has OEKO-TEX certifications for their Talalay latex and wool, and do not use any scary flame retardants – just hydrated silica, about which we have no significant concerns. (They are not in our Best Stuff or Good Stuff category because they don’t have as many certifications those brands do.)
Essentia
The deal: This year, Essentia’s Black Friday Live sale is offering 25% off every purchase, plus two free latex cloud pillows.
Valid through: December 3rd
Our take on Essentia: Essentia is a safer option for those who love memory foam mattresses. After speaking with them, they sent us the independent testing results for their mattresses—everything checked out as non-toxic. They also have a number of certifications, some of which are more legit than others, which is why they don’t make the cut for our Good Stuff category.
Please share any 2019 Black Friday non-toxic mattress deals that you’ve found below. And if you want more clarification around the certifications, check out our super comprehensive Safe Mattress Guide.
Happy, sane shopping!

Hi Mary,
John here…
Thanks for sharing your concerns. It’s good to know that our readers are paying attention! 🙂
When reading our Safe Mattress Guide it is important to note the category called “The Best Stuff”. There you will find only 3 manufacturers. We are direct dealers for 2 of those and very recently, at the request of the 3rd, we have established an affiliate relationship.
The overwhelming number of emails and calls we get re: safe mattresses are from folks who simply cannot afford any of the offerings from the “Best” manufacturers. It is a financial reality. They almost always ask, “what products would you suggest for me if I cannot afford the best?” It is actually heartbreaking to consider the plight of a parent who desperately wants to do the best for their children but simply cannot afford an expensive mattress. We wish there were better, affordable options out there. (If you know of any please let me know!)
As a result of hundreds of very difficult conversations with our readers we decided to amend our guide to include a “Good Stuff” and an “Okay Stuff” category. These will at least offer products that may be more affordable and still not be nearly as toxic as many products out there. Also…please note that with some of the products on those lists we tell folks why we are concerned with the products.
Please be aware that we get requests from A LOT of mattress manufacturers; asking us to retail their products. We turn almost all of them away because their products get nowhere near our standards.
Yes, we have to fund our site in some manner. We simply cannot afford to do all the research and writing without some form of compensation. Rather than sell ad space we opted to go the retail route. We think it is a more honest method.
It is indeed distressing to read your harsh assessment of what we do. When you say, “…you are putting the health of your readers at risk with FALSE information…” it is difficult to not get upset because we would NEVER do anything of the kind. We may be mistaken about some things (and we are more than happy to re-investigate products…we do it a lot!), but suggesting that we are intentionally duping our readers is a very long way from the truth.
In the end we are always happy to know that our readers are keeping their eyes and ears open!
Thanks again for the input and for the opportunity to share our view of things.

Awesome list! I’m going to go shopping. I just came from one of my favorite healthy product companies Organic Excellence and they are having a 30% off EVERYTHING sale too. And new customers receive a free sample bag of products a $15 value. You may want to check their site out at organicexcellence.com lots of great products for skin and hair. They would probably send you products for your review as they are really great there. Thanks again for the great list….shopping now…..

Hello!
I just purchased the My Green Mattress as a part of the Black Friday deal. My 10 month old daughter is co-sleeping, so we went with the Queen, double sided Echo primarily because there was no latex. I’m not sure if this was a good reason to choose this model though (or if double sided was necessary). Do you have any opinions of children sleeping on latex? I’ve seen retailers keeping latex out of crib mattresses.
Also, do you think an organic mattress protector is necessary, or would a vinyl, phthalates, PVC free one do? They do say “waterproof” which I’m sure means toxic, but adding another $200 to an expensive purchase is tough considering we added the “double sided”.
Thanks for the information!

We bought a My Green Mattress for my daughter last year based off of your recommendations and what we could afford. We got a great deal, $150 off the Echo, and then financed the rest through Affirm no interest payments. We are so happy we could find a way to at least get into the “Better” categories of mattresses, knowing how important it is! We love her mattress, and so does she!
Now our son is ready for one, so we bought another My Green Mattress Echo mattress on Black Friday for $125 off. Wish I had seen your post for the additional savings! 😉 Either way, highly recommend!
Thanks for all the great research and advice- for a conscious (but broke) mumma your website has been such an amazing guide to live the best we can!

People make their choice in favor of organic products because they are high-quality, harmless and produced under optimal working conditions. And manufacturers do not ignore mattresses, because this is an important component of a comfortable life. The Natural Latex Mattress allows for weight and pressure equalization, giving you extreme comfort as the mattress adjusts to your body. Our mattress will not allow you to sink, like a memory foam mattress, or leave you aching, like a spring mattress.

Hello, I was at the futon shop (retailstore was in San Diego, CA) and the company is out of San Francisco. They proudly display the GOLS and GOTS and many other certifications. I have back issues and firm mattresses work for me best – The futon shop sells coconut coir with latex mattress (cocopedic) which was perfect comfort wise. However when I asked to see the certificate, they had a hard time finding it online and it was posted on link of one of their mattresses they sell. It was made to a manufacturer in Srilanka. It was a very good deal (almost 60% off) decided to come home and do more research. Is there a better way to check on the authenticity of the futon shop brand? Thank you so much!!
