Does this work well with cold water washes? I’ve found powders don’t always work great in cold cycles.

Hi Emily,
I do most of my wash in cold water and I find that it works. It’s an old fashioned soap so it works well even in cold water which is all many had in the old days!

The product itself seems decent, however the quality control seems to be lacking. My first and only order included the jar and 2 refill bags. Upon receiving my order, I noticed one of my refill bags looked much different from the other and the jar, despite being labeled as the same product. One of the refill bags had noticeably less product in it and was also a different color. I contacted customer service, and was told “that has never happened before…” and to weigh the bags and if it was incorrect, they would send a replacement. So, I did, one bag came in a little shy, but close to the advertised 28 oz size, but the other was approximately 4 oz short. I included photos of the unopened products on the scale and side by side. I also included a photo of the two products, one scoop of each to show the color difference. One was white, while the jar and other refill bag had light orange granules. I haven’t heard back from them in a week, so I’ll pass on any future orders. I expect consistency in products I buy, especially when they come at a premium price, which I’m happy to pay if the product and customer service is worthy. Maybe I got a dud, I do understand this is a small business with a handmade product, which is why I opted for it. Customer service should have taken care of that better. I cancelled my subscription, I would rather not haggle about laundry detergent and worry about weighing each bag to make sure I got what I paid for.

Hi Stephanie,
So sorry! I responded to your first email but missed your response back. As you can see from the other reviews for this product, folks really like it. Indeed it is hand-made in relatively small batches locally in Lancaster Pa. by folks who typically pay close attention to quality control. The main ingredient is beef tallow. This comes from several local farms, and as a result, each batch of tallow can have variations. These variations can result in color and texture differences between batches…but the bottom line is that all the soap in the package is equally effective at cleaning laundry in a nontoxic way. You did, however, point out that one package weighed less than advertised. We will be happy to give you a store credit, or refund you you for that error. Hopefully you can see that, despite this hiccup, this laundry soap is very “Good Stuff”.
Thanks for keeping us on our toes!

I didn’t work as good as I expected it to work. I love that it is all natural but it doesn’t do a good job cleaning steins from poopy and from my baby’s vitamin. Every time I get the clothes out of the washer I wonder if they were actually cleaned. Kind of upset I bought the whole jar (not very cheap also).
