What Makes This Good Stuff
Raw cacao is often cited by health and nutrition experts as one of several naturally occurring “superfoods”, due to a very high concentration of minerals, vitamins and antioxidants in the form of polyphenols called flavinols. The list of antioxidant health benefits derived from cacao is very extensive, from lowering one’s risk of heart disease and diabetes, to improving gut health and circulation, to reducing inflammation, blood pressure and “bad cholesterol” and even extending to cognitive improvements. Raw cacao is high in magnesium, calcium, iron, potassium and phosphorus. Raw cacao is also high in fiber and a good source or protein.
The process by which raw cacao becomes commercial chocolate typically removes a large percentage of the nutrients and antioxidants, therefore many people choose to add raw cacao powder directly to other foods or blended into shakes. Alternately, you can select chocolate products with a high percentage of raw cacao (at least 65%) in order to treat yourself to a delicious chocolate snack, while also feeling good about making a healthy choice.
If you want to enjoy healthy cacao in the form of tasty chocolate, we’re excited to offer several products from Villakuyaya, an Ecuadorian woman-owned company offering a variety of delicious and organic cacao-rich products.
