Moisturizers: Barrier Support and Hydration Lock

Moisturizers work primarily at the surface level to seal in hydration and support the skin barrier. They typically contain a mix of humectants (draw water in, like glycerin or hyaluronic acid), emollients (soften skin, like plant oils), and occlusives (seal moisture, like shea butter or beeswax). A good moisturizer doesn’t need silicones or synthetic polymers to feel effective.
