Epic Nano XP Pitcher Replacement Filter
The Epic Nano XP Replacement Filter is designed for shoppers who want broad contaminant reduction from an Epic pitcher, including microbiological contaminants that many standard pitcher filters are not designed to address. It can be used with Epic-branded pitchers and dispensers and is available either as a complete cased filter or as a lower-waste replacement cartridge.
Why We Consider It Good Stuff
Epic publishes detailed contaminant-reduction results instead of relying only on general claims about taste and odor. The current Nano XP uses dual-layer nano-pleated media and is independently tested to NSF/ANSI Standards 42, 53, 401, P231, and P473. It is also NSF certified to NSF/ANSI Standard 42 and NSF/ANSI/CAN 372. Those are different claims: certification applies to Standards 42 and 372, while the additional standards describe independent performance testing.
According to Epic’s current test information, the Nano XP helps reduce more than 70 contaminants, including PFAS, lead, chlorine, pharmaceuticals, bacteria, viruses, Giardia, and microplastics. It does not reduce fluoride. If fluoride reduction is a priority, choose the Pure XP filter instead.
Choose the Correct Version
-
Nano XP Filter (cased): Includes the reusable outer housing and the inner filter cartridge. Choose this if you do not already own the XP housing.
-
Nano XP Replacement Cartridge: Includes only the inner cartridge. Do not order this version unless you already have the reusable Nano XP outer casing.
The cartridge system allows you to retain the housing when the media is exhausted, which Epic says reduces replacement-filter plastic by up to 75%.
Capacity and Replacement Timing
Each Nano XP filter is rated for up to 100 gallons and typically lasts about three to four months. Actual life varies with household use and water quality. Slower flow, a noticeable change in taste, or reaching the rated capacity can indicate that replacement is due.
What to Know Before Buying
The Nano XP is intended for cold water. Do not use it with hot water or saltwater, and do not freeze it. It is a useful option for everyday tap water, certain well-water situations, travel, camping, and emergency preparation, but filtration performance depends on the specific contaminants and conditions in your water. Review Epic’s current contaminant-testing sheet when targeting a particular contaminant.
How to Use
Install the filter or cartridge in the compatible Epic housing and follow Epic’s priming instructions before drinking the water. New gravity filters may flow more slowly at first while the media becomes fully saturated.
