Product Description

Gather Brooklyn – Organic Cotton Face Masks are sourced  from a blanket and sari workshop in western India. They’ve been weaving with organic cotton and traditional techniques for six generations. Partnering with them on the design and finishing in our studios, Gather BK made a sustainable mask to protect you and stay chic. Because the masks are made from excess salvage fabric, there is a limited quantity for each color. Some weaves have imperfections due to the handwoven nature of the fabric.

Until we find a way to be rid of Covid 19 Corona Virus, there is one easy precautions we can take to minimize the likelihood of spreading Covid. Wear a mask! Masks are made from all sorts of materials. Most of us are wearing cotton masks. Unfortunately, conventionally grown cotton is one of the most heavily sprayed crops on earth. Pesticides and herbicides are just the start… Unlike organic cotton, a slew of toxic synthetic chemicals are also required in processing conventional cotton. Some of these chemicals include silicone waxes, petroleum scours, softeners, heavy metals, flame retardants, ammonia, and formaldehyde.”

Wearing a face mask is highly recommended in settings where physical distancing is difficult to achieve such as in public transportation or at indoor public spaces.

VERY IMPORTANT HEALTH NOTE:  These cotton masks are unregulated and do not provide the same health protection as regulated N95 respirators or surgical masks.

I ordered (1) of each. These, unfortunately, are not well-made. The mask does not have a nose clip in it, so there’s no way to close the wide openings on each side of the nose. This allows air to enter, so these are useless. If there was a clip you could squeeze the fabric to cover the nose entirely which would be great. Also the mask will not stay over the nose. It drops down off of the nose. It’s falling down off my face no matter how tight I make the strings. $30 dollars down the drain.
