How to Choose a Safe Deodorant
Not all "natural" deodorants are created equal — and not all conventional deodorants are equally harmful. Here's what to look for and what to avoid.
Deodorant vs. Antiperspirant
Antiperspirants use aluminum salts to block sweat glands and reduce perspiration. Deodorants mask or neutralize odor without blocking sweat. We only carry deodorants — not antiperspirants — because aluminum absorption through the skin is a concern we take seriously, especially with daily use near breast tissue.
Ingredients to Avoid
- Aluminum compounds — used in antiperspirants, linked to potential hormone disruption
- Parabens — preservatives linked to estrogen disruption
- Synthetic fragrance/parfum — can contain dozens of undisclosed chemicals
- Triclosan — antimicrobial agent linked to hormone disruption, banned in some products
- Propylene glycol — penetration enhancer that may cause skin irritation
What We Look For
- Aluminum-free formulas
- No synthetic fragrance or parabens
- EWG Verified or highly rated on Skin Deep
- Proven odor protection — we only carry deodorants that actually work
- Safe for sensitive skin, pregnancy, and kids where applicable
