How Apple Leather is Made
When apples are processed for juice, about 70–75% goes into the juice, leaving the remaining 25–30% as pomace. In commercial production, apple pomace typically ends up in landfills, where it quickly releases methane — a potent greenhouse gas — due to its high moisture content and lack of oxygen.
The pomace, however, is rich in fibers that can be further utilized. It is collected, dehydrated, then mixed with binding agents and laminated onto recycled, plant-based fabric — giving new life to what would otherwise be waste.
How to Care for Apple Leather
Start with a damp cloth to gently rub away any spots, and wipe off any surface dirt and scuff marks. Then use a clean, soft cloth to apply a layer of colorless beeswax or coconut wax to moisturize the surface. Let the bag rest for 30 minutes in well-ventilated area and avoid direct heat.
For any fresh stain, we recommend use a soft cloth, damped with clean water then wrung well, to gently wipe off the stain.
