Why Nitrate Removal Matters
Nitrate contamination commonly enters groundwater through agricultural fertilizers, septic systems, and feedlots. Elevated nitrate levels in drinking water may pose health risks, especially for infants under six months old. The EPA maximum contaminant level (MCL) for nitrate in drinking water is 10 mg/L (ppm) measured as nitrogen. Boiling water does not remove nitrate and may increase nitrate concentration.
